Parish notes

Granted in the king’s presence to Kelso abbey by Hugh Sansmanche (sine manicis- for which see RRS ii no. 183 [=Kelso Lib. no. 404] note p. 241), the church was confirmed or regranted to the abbey c.1200 by Dufenald de Strahevid and in 1232 by Walter bp. of Glasgow (Kelso Lib. nos. 279, 347, 404). The parsonage thereafter remained annexed, although its revenues were evidently devoted to the uses of the dependent cell of Lesmahagow (Ass. 245, 247; Reg. of Pres. ii, 20). Cowan 1967, 152. Not mentioned in Shennan 1892.
