Notes

The early sixteenth-century church, with seventeenth-century additions, is now in ruins. It was dedicated to St John the Evangelist. It is sometimes referred to as 'the Kirk of Skulls' from the 3 skulls, said to be of Danes, which decorated the inside of the church. See NMRS.
