Notes

In 1794 OSA recorded: 'In Kinore there is a hill called St. Mungo, on the W. side of which there is a spring issuing from it, called St. Mungo's Well, of no medicinal quality but what arises from superstitious credulity.' OS surveyors reported in 1961, 'The well, a spring, is situated in dense woodland, and lies at the foot of a short narrow cleft in the steep north westerly slopes of the Hill of Mungo. It is a small, shallow pool and is the source of a stream which flows in a westerly direction' (cited by NMRS).
