The Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB, 1868) states that Mr Hay, tenant of East Shethin, helped to remove many of the stones from the ruins of this chapel.Name Book 1868, cited by NMRS. But note the presence of another supposed 'St John's Chapel' at Ythsie, a short distance to the south, also in Tarves parish.
