It is situated on the side of the track or road called the Firmounth Road, that runs south from Glentanar. The well is close to the summit of the route, and a short distance from the summit of Hill of St Colm, which marks a turning poinot in the parish boundary and which the road passes by a short distance to the east. The well is very close to the same parish boundary, between Aboyne and Glentanar to the west and Birse parish to the east.
