Notes
Supposed site of chapel, but beyond name (now obsolete) no sign. NMRS record says: "Caibeal Eoin (John's Chapel): An oratory or cell of a monk called John stood here, where it is also said he was buried [so NSA]. The last vestige of it was removed about 20 years ago by the present tenant (Name Book 1864). J A Balfour (1910) could find no trace, no information, of this cell. Name Book 1864; NSA (Rev A MacMillan) 1845; J A Balfour 1910. The siting falls in a level pasture field on the flood-plain of the Clauchan Water, and nothing significant is visible. The farmer at Balnacoole (NR 915 306) says he has ploughed this field twice and found nothing here or on the gently undulating pastured field to the NE (centred NR 9100 3070) which he says is called 'Gravepark'. Visited by OS (J R L) 18 September 1977."
