A village at the east end of Loch Earn, at the point where the waters of the loch flow east, to form the River Earn. It acquired this name in 1817 when the first feus were granted along the edge of Loch Earn. The earlier name of the settlement was Port of Lochearn (Porteous, 1912, 6).
