Notes
Site now of bonded warehouses, this was site of a cotton bleaching works in the 19th century. A chapel and well dedicated to St Cuthbert are named on OS 6" 1st edn nearby, but there is some scepticism about whether these were extrapolated from the name of the Holm. NMRS records a tradition of a St Cuthbert's Chapel here, but there is no direct evidence of it and its existence may have been inferred from the name of the 'holm'.
