We cannot be certain that the object at the above NGR is the original site of the church or chapel of Kilmun, whose name survives in the nearby settlement of Kilmun. NMRS has description of the site of which it says 'though these remains may occupy the site of an Early Christian burial-ground ... they were dscribed in the OS Name Book as a private burial ground of the family of MacDougall of Kilmun. Neither the proportions nor the orientation of the inner structure supports its identification as a chapel.'
