Notes
According to tradition, a stone on which St Margaret rested on her first journey to Dunfermline. This is recorded in a nineteenth-century inscription on the stone (Taylor with Márkus i, 360). There was also a farm here called St Margaret's Stone, named after the stone itself, whose early forms go back at least to the sixteenth century, showing that the association of the saint with the stone goes back much earlier than the early forms of the name of the stone itself.
