Notes

The NGR is for the the site of the later medieval parish kirk of Urr, within which parish the church of Colmonell was the parish kirk. For the complex relationship of churches in Urr see Brooke, 'The Deanery of Desnes Cro' i TDGNHAS 62 (1987). Essentially, the earliest big church in this parish was St Constantine's of Edingham - more or less a minster - but this was pre-parochial. Subsequently, as Kirk Colemanele emerged as the parish kirk, St Constantine's was demoted to a chapel. Then for a while the dedication to St Constantine slipped away from Edingham and got attached to Colemanele, but this seems to have been a temporary and not terribly welll-evidenced shift. We should, by the way, completely ignore the recent Ordnance Survey description of another site as 'St Constantine's Church'. This is at NX825697 beside the farm of Meikle Kirkland. This is not St Constantine's, and probably not even in the medieval parish of Urr, but is likely the site of St Bridget's Church, Kirkbride of Blaiket. Blaiket Mains farmhouse lies to the south about 1,800m away.
