The building is 19th century. The OS Name Books shed no light on the commemoration. The Maybole Historical Society has posted online a letter of 1840 to the resident of St John's Cottage, under this name (http://www.maybole.org/history/archives/1840letter.htm) Acc to this, farm was originally "Bogend".
