Notes
Blanefield relates to a cluster of names both Sc and G: Blanefield Burn, but also Auchenblane (NS260079). Blanefield itself may be represented on Blaeu as W. Achinblain. All these names probably relate to the name attested in the original grant of the lands which formed Crosraguel Abbey to Paisley, "Suthblane", probably for "Suidhe Blááin". The suidhe in question may be the low hillock that lies between Auchenblane and Blanefield, or, perhaps, Low Cairn Hill on which the present (1777) parish church of Kirkoswald sits.
