Originally a chapel in the burgh of Newburgh, still in Abdie parish, when Newburgh was erected as a parish in 1633 this became the parish kirk. A new building had been erected here in the early sixteenth century dedicated to Sts Catherine, St Duthac and St Mary Magdalene.
