It is recorded in 1494 as having been 'newly built' (noviter edificata) by the abbot of Holyrood Abbey 'at the end of the bridge of Leith on the north side of its river' (ad finem pontis de Leith ex parte boreali aque ejusdem) (RMS ii no. 2193). This information gives the approximate NGR. OS Digimap marks St Ninian's Manse near this site. The old bridge has now gone.
