Notes
This is the parish kirk of Falkirk. The medieval church on this site was demolished in the nineteenth century. It is possible that the kirk was dedicated to St Modan, as suggested by the Aberdeen Calendar (PSAS 2, 271): ‘xviij Kl Decembris – In Scocia Sancti Modani episcopi et confessoris apud Falkirk cuius vita sancta et conuersatio fuit deuota.’ But this is not certain evidence of the dedication of the kirk - it may simply refer to a significant local celebration of Modan on his feastday.
