Notes

This place-name is highly unlikely to be a hagiotoponym. As the early forms suggest, and as Peter Drummond convincingly argues, this is likely to be a surname (Pedder), ultimately derived from the occupation of pedlar (Sc pedder). There are other local burn names clearly taken from surnames. See P. Drummond, Toponymic patterns in parishes of the upper Kelvin basin, PhD University of Glasgow, 2014.
