In 1219 x 1228 Riccarton (Ricardton) is recorded as a chapel pertaining to the kirk of Dundonald (Paisley Reg. 22) when it was granted to the abortive Gilbertine foundation at Dalmilling. In 1239, still a chapel of Dundonald, Ricardiston was confirmed by William bishop of Glasgow to the monks of Paisley (Paisley Reg. 225-6).
