Parish notes

Originally known as Hamer, the lands were granted by David I to Holyrood 1128x36, while c.1130 the church of the same was confirmed to the abbey by Robert bp. of St A. (Holyrood Lib. nos. 1-2). No vicarage existed in 1251, while in 1356 the church was served by two canons (ibid. no.75; Chron. Bower xiv, c.13, 14). For more details and refs. see Cowan 1967, 209.
