Parish notes

Cowan 1967, 34 (Colstone) does not mention any occurrence of this parish-name until 1402 (A.B. Coll. ii 9; summarised in Lind. Cart. 294; in full Lind. Lib. no.49). Logie-Mar and Coldstone parishes were united in 1618 (Fasti 103). In 1891 there were several changes made to the parish. 1. The core of the medieval parish of Migvie, then part of Tarland and Migvie, was annexed to LOC; for details see LOC MVX. 2. the following were transferred from LOC to the parish of Tarland - these seem all to have belonged to the medieval parish of Coldstone, since they lie on the east side of LOC. They are TLD LOC: Bo(i)g TLD LOC; Easter Davoch TLD LOC (but Wester Davoch LOC), Glassel TLD LOC; Hill of Bo(i)g TLD LOC;Longfold TLD LOC; Melgum TLD LOC; Millhead TLD LOC & Winds' ee TLD LOC. Coldstone parish CXS appears to have contained much of the barony of Kinaldie CXS now LOC, for which see RMS vi no.1050. This barony appears to have been created in 1429 in favour of William de Forbes (RMS ii no.127). The lands associated with it then are Groddie, Davach Manach, Pitmuny (in Monymusk) and Knocksoul. In 1600 the lands making up said barony are:lands of Boig (TLD, MVX), Dawachmenach, Balgrennie etc. etc.. For Davach Manach see Easter Davach TLD MVX and Wester Davach LOC MVX.
