Parish notes
The church dedicated to Colme or Columba had an effigy of him in a niche inside. In 'some of the days of confusion' this 'poor, harmless effigy' ('effigies') was dragged from its place and thrown out onto the common road just opposite to the entry of the church-yard, where it lay for many years exposed to the scorn and derision of mobish minds. It is not now to be seen'. (From a 'Description of the Country of The Garioch', in the Edinburgh Magazine for 1760, p.622, quoted in A.B. Coll. 580 note 1).
